A superb Maybury cased percussion double rifle is one of the top lost in Australian Arms Auctions October sale. The sale is comprised of antique and modern collector arms as well as edged weapons and militaria. Other fine antique sporting arms in the sale include a cased Westley Richards percussion double and a cased bar-in-wood Purdey hammer gun. A spectacular antique pistol cataloged is the Russian flintlock by Illing with detachable shoulder stock.

CZERNYS FINE ARMS AND ARMOUR, SEPT 15th.

Czerny's fall arms and armour sale is preceded on the 14th by an equestrian sale that includes rare elements of horse armour.  The main Arms and Armour sale on the 15th has a spectacular arrary of and antique and collectible arms and armour. Pictured are the of several suits of armour offered, some Italian examples in "Pisan Style"  as well as a full Italian armour, south German black and white armour and a rare heavy "wall" armour.

The Adriano Salo colletion of arms in the sale includes a wide range of American 19th cent handguns as well as earlier European and British examples.  A published highlight of this collection is the heavily inlaid French wheellock of the early 16th century. A wide section of highly decorative Islamic and Indo-Persian arms are offered, among them a "Hooded Katar"  with extensive silver inlay. Arms of Russian interest include a nielloed and gilt inlaid Caucasian pistol.

Edged weapons in the sale include a Venetian broadsword of the 15th century with elements of it's original scabbard as well as a European "hand and a half " sword circa 1400 and many other military and civilian examples. Click on the image for a link to the sale. 
 



ROCK ISLAND: PREMIERE FIREARMS AUCTION, Sept 7th - Sept 9th

Rock Island premiere sale will be held Sept 9th. Among the top lots in the sale is this matched pair of presentation Ivory gripped Colt Model 1861 revolvers.  Other top lots include a documented “One of one Thousand” Winchester Deluxe Model 1876, an Ulrich engraved 1886 express rifle, inlaid in gold and platinum, the finest 1886 rifle known.  Later US military guns include the Garand bearing the serial number, 1000,000 presented to the designer John C Garand and a battle used Singer model 1911 .45.

Unique lots in the sale include a Walker Bulldog light tank and a WWII Stuart light tank as well as a DUKW and M3a1 Scout car.  The wide also ranging sale includes Herman Goring’s surrender Walther PPK, a Westley Richards take down bolt action rifle, Several Class III Thompsons, an MP44, a superb gold age flintlock by Johnson Ohio, and several fine Parker doubles. Cowans are holding a sale of moderatley estimate sfirearms and accountrements on August 9th. The sale incldudes both modern and antique firearms as well as swords and related militaria. Pictured is cased commerorative set of a Winchester Model 94 and Single action Army.  Another cased commerorative set in the sale incldue a Texas sesquicentennial pairt of Winchester model 94's.

Among the antique guns in the sale are a Sharps model 1863 New Model cartridge conversion, a marlin 4 1/4 rifle and a US model 1816 Maynard Conversion. HENRY DERINGER TRADE RIFLE, THE COBBS JULY14th

Included in a good estate auction the the Cobbs on July 14th is this rare Deringer Indaan contract rifle with characterustic eaglehead  brass patchbox. Also in this estate is a desirable Winchester model 21, a French model 1754 infantry flintlock musket, a Springfield model 1795 type II, and an excellent Winchester model M1 Carine.

AN ITALIAN BROADSWORD FROM THE MAMLUK ARSENAL IN ALEXANDRIA, CHRISTIE'S, JULY 5th

Among the rarest and most sought after swords are those from Maluk arsenal in Alexandria. Christie’s has one such example on July the 4th carrying and estimate of 200,000-300,000 sterling. These inscribed swords were presented as diplomatic gifts to the mamluk sultan Mailik Mu’ayyad Abu’l-Nasr Shaykh in 1419 by King Janus of Cyprus.

In 1517 the Ottoman Empire removed these swords to Istanbul following their defeat of the Mamluks Some were subsequently sold on the private market following world war I. They are, not surprisingly, a holy grail of collectors given the, antiquity, the historical context and the relatively fine condition these swords tend to have.
 



ROCK ISLAND REGIONAL AUCTION, JUNE 21st

Rock island regional auction on June 21st includes many scarce collector arms. Among the lots offered is the Volcanic pistol pictured that carrier an estimate of $8000-$10,000. Related lots include a Henry rifle and a Winchester 1873 first model in 44 WCF. Other Iconic American arms in the sale are a Colt 1839 percussion revolving carbine and a cased Remington new model army revolver.
 
Among the military collectibles are a Springfield 1903 sniper rifle, and an Elgin cutlass pistol. Sporting arms include a William Evans Double, a Clayton Neslon Mauser 98 in 30-06, and a Winchester Model 21. There is a wide range of collector handguns from all historic periods as well as many modern examples of pistols shotguns and rifles for both collector and sportsmen. CZERNYS: FINE ANTIQUE ARMS AND ARMOUR, JUNE 9th

As typical, Czernys June 9th  sale of arms and armour includes some of the most sumptuously decorative and historically important lots to be offered to collectors this year. Pictured is a fabulous  Ottoman 19th C agate hilted and silver mounted Kandshar dagger. Other significant edged weapons in the sale include a Russian award sword with Japanese blade from the Russo-Japanese conflict in 1905, a gold hilted Kard with rubies, emeralds and diamonds, a superb and early Pata gauntlet sword with extensive gold decoration, and Austrian silver mounted "luxury" sabre with blue and gilt blade and a late 17th C. basket hilted Polish sabre.

Among the firearms offered is a highly decorative flintlock rifle from the estate of Baron Von Beulwitz with a 1663 dated barrel. Among the other fine guns in the sale is a beautiful German 17th C Tschinke with extensive inlay, an important work of art.  Fine pairs of pistols will also be crossing the block, with wheellock, snaphaunce, flintlock  percussion and breech loading examples to choose from. Other lost of interest in the sale include an early European fighting shield dating between the 11th and 14th centuries, a fully equipped WWII period battle Jeep and a highly unusual flintlock pistol with integral lantern, ancipating the laser sight!




ANTIVITY PRAHA, ANTIQUES, ARMS AND ARMOUR, JUNE 9th

Antikvity Praha’s next auction includes over 100 lots of arms & armor in addition to fine art and antiques. Among the firearms in the sale is a scarce Winchester model 1866 in .44 Russian. Other fine guns include a superb double barreled French flintlock shotgun by Rougier Chometton in St Etienne, C 1800. This gun is chased and decorated in gold with silver inlay to the stock. A very unusual and rare rifle offered, is the over and under rifle by Adam Kuchenreuter. It has with back action locks and silver inlaid barrel. There is a good selection of revolvers, both European and American in the sale with some cased examples.

Fine swords in the sale include a Russian model 1764/75 broadsword with brass baskethilt, a Hungarian officials silver mounted sabre, several 17th C rapiers as well as backswords and later light cavalry sabers. Asain arms in the sale incldue a selection  of fien katana's wakizashi's and polearms as well as tsuba's and a Chinese Ming dysnasty helmet and several armours.
